Mort had experience in steel pipe distribution before the war, and when he returned, he began serving local Philadelphia customers – plumbing supply houses, fabricators, small machine shops, and manufacturers – and then grew into a much larger client base. Mort had returned from service in World War II and began buying surplus material from the Philadelphia navy shipyard and reselling it.
